CHARLESTON — The Sackler Family, owners of Purdue Pharma–who misled doctors, falsely marketed, and purposefully funneled a shit-load of painkillers into our community directly triggering the opioid epidemic and causing over half a million Americans to lose their lives–are finally being held accountable for their heinous crimes.
Just Kidding!
The Sacklers have filed for bankruptcy, baby! And they will be able to live out the rest of their luxurious lives as multi-billionaires! Oh, the sweet, sweet taste of being filthy rich enough to suffer zero consequences for committing genocide. They don’t even have to sell a yacht!
The Sacklers were reportedly shouting, “Yippee!” and, “Hip! Hip! Hooray!” while chest-bumping and high-fiving. Someone said, “I propose a toast…” and raised a glass into the air. As The Sacklers had a much deserved celebration, we ran out of fingers and toes counting the lives of friends and family members we’ve lost that were directly tied to their greed and criminality.
Well, maybe we’ll get a chance to see another Sackler startup from the one kid who directs kinda good movies or the other one that’s an okay singer-songwriter. Maybe they can use their trust funds to invest in the next big pharmaceutical company that will go on to create the next big epidemic while simultaneously profiting from treatment for the addiction that they caused and then ultimately suffering zero consequences by filing for bankruptcy and forking over a fraction of the cash they earned from killing people.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
