MORGANTOWN — One-of-a-kind: Appalachian locals, Blake Sturgeon, Chuck Rogers, and Billy Walker, have started working on a new podcast about their experiences living in Appalachia.
“We were just talking one night; all of us were pretty zooted on whippits. I had actually passed out for, like, 30 minutes and the boys almost called 911.” Blake Sturgeon laughed, telling us about how the new podcast, MountainEars, got started. “Yeah, Chuck was cracking us up and Billy was like, ‘duuuuude, this could totally be a podcast.’”
Sturgeon told The Ramp about the inception of the unique idea that most white men have on a daily basis. “We started thinking about what it could be about, and we had literally zero ideas — no gimmicks, nothing. But then we thought, ‘What if we just used a regional pun and talked about bullshit West Virginia stuff?’”
Sturgeon gave us a behind-the-scenes look at MountainEars, saying, “We don’t have any equipment yet, but I do have some stuff on my Amazon wishlist.” Sturgeon wouldn’t stop talking about how funny his buddy Chuck was, but as far as we could tell, Chuck was just uncomfortably high on some of that Mary J and really needed some water.
Be on the lookout for MountainEars on Apple podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts, at some point in time in either the near future or never.
