AUSTIN — Ramp reporters sat down for an exclusive interview with Matthew McConaughey about his time spent in Huntington, WV while shooting the movie, We Are Marshall.
“It was groovy, man. Virginia is a beautiful state. I ate at John’s Steak & Spaghetti, it was alright, alright, nothin’ to write home about.”
McConaughey seemed genuinely confused about the details and specifics of the state, city, and school on which the movie was based. “West Virginia, East Virginia, it’s all Virginia.” McConaughey added, confusing the fact that West Virginia succeeded, forming an entirely new state in 1863.
“Bummer about that helicopter crash, though,” McConaughey misremembered. “From what I recall, and I was pretty fucked up, but the people were nice. What’s this interview for, again?”
After explaining to Matthew, yet again, that we were doing an interview about the time he spent in West Virginia, delineating that West Virginia and Virginia are two separate states, and reiterating that it’s called “Huntington”, not “Hummington”, he responded, “Cool, man. Yeah, that’s kinda what I thought was going on here.”
