Local Country Musician Influenced by You Guessed It

CHARLESTON — There’s a hot, new country music artist in town. Mason Crowder has been stirring up quite the commotion at local open mics and dive bars around the state. His sound is primarily influenced by… Well, Ramp reporters will give you three guesses, but you’ll only need one.

Did you guess anyone other than “Tyler Childers”? If so, then you’re pretty fucking stupid. Ever since Tyler Childers came onto the scene with a fresh and emotional sound intertwined with lyrics that spoke to Appalachian life, a bunch of normie nobodies have been trying to jock his style.

While Crowder is starting to draw a respectable crowd, one of his fans, Jessie Young, told Ramp reporters, “He’s pretty good. He does like four Tyler Childers’ covers surprisingly well. His originals are kind of shitty. Actually, really shitty. But yeah, it’s not like Tyler is going to be playing at The Blue Parrot on a Thursday night anytime soon.”

Crowder has gained national notoriety ever since his YouTube cover of “Grindstone” went kind of viral — like, 20k views or something. But he really made his mark when he marketed his mini-tour with “Tyler Childers” in really big letters on the flyer and “Covers” really small underneath. It’s a bold move, sketchy as hell, but we respect the hustle — especially since he’s probably going to have to lawyer up.

At press time, Crowder commented, “No comment.”
