Coal Miner Writes Beautiful Rendition of Beatles Classic, Blacklung

MULLENS – A West Virginia man, Arlan Thompson, wrote a new version of the Beatles classic, Blackbird, about the easy, wheezy, beautiful life of a coal miner. He is performing under the name New River Gorge Harrison and hopes to touch the hearts and lungs of miners throughout the state.

Blacklung

Black lung singin' in the dark coal mine

Coughin' singin' wheezin' while I cry

All your life

You were only waiting to destroy these lungs of mine

Black lung singin' disability check

Early retirement, sittin’ on the deck

Cool Bud Lite

I’ll go score some oxys but the kid will have to drive

Black lung cry, Black lung cry

Into the night til a coal man dies

Black lung cry, Black lung cry

Into the night til a coal man dies

Black lung coupled with a Marlboro Light

Drink some beers and maybe hit my wife

All your life

You were only waiting to destroy these lungs of mine

You were only waiting to destroy these lungs of mine

You were only waiting to destroy these lungs of mine
