UNKNOWN — Bette Midler revealed herself to be the popular, Appalachian meme-maker, Little Bubby Child, when she Tweeted, “I run down to the pop shop and stepped on a snappin turtle. Ain’t she a beaut? Who’s hungry?”
Little Bubby Child hit the scene in 2019 after crafting unique, almost Adult Swim-esque memes that rang true with many Appalachians. But the big surprise came yesterday on Twitter, when the Golden Globe-winner tweeted in an unmistakably Bubby Child manner. In a rant saying, “I cain’t even smoke Pall Mall Blue 100s innymore. Theys too long.”
Midler’s rant was met with a warranted uproar. One Twitter user replied, “Wow, Bette. I used to have respect for how you pretended to be people in movies and television, but Little Bubby Child’s voice is tarnished now.” Another said, “It would be one thing if she grew up in Appalachia, but she didn’t. She hid behind the anonymity of the internet, instead of laughing with us… you laughed AT US!! Unfollowed.”
The star of the overrated, B-Tier Halloween movie that isn’t even in the same league as Beetlejuice (despite costing twice as much to make) could not be reached for comment. However, Little Bubby Child posted a cartoon on Instagram portraying a dolled-up Hollywood actress saying, “Didn’t mean to hurt no one’s feelins. I knocked out all my teeth so I cood meet the tooth fairy.” In what some fans are accepting as an apology, however, Midler will have to do much better than that to get off of our Shit List.
